Pedal with the Parcs lanched for the second year in association with Center Parcs supporting charities SPARKS and the The National Byway Trust
This morning saw celebrities join together to officially announce PEDAL WITH THE PARCS. For the second year this hugely successful national cycling event will take place in and around Center Parcs villages on four consecutive Sundays from the 10th June until 1st July.
This morning marked the official announcement before the website www.pedalwiththeparcs.co.uk goes live on Monday to register entries. HRH Princess Michael of Kent, Amanda Holden, Suzanne Shaw, Fay Ripley, Lynda Bellingham, Lisa Rogers, Denise Welch, Neil Fox, Colin Salmon, Rebekah Gibbs, Linzi Stoppard, Jimmy Hill, Robert Powell, Babs Powell, Tamara Beckwith and Yasmin Mills were among the stars who got on their bikes to support the cause at the grounds of Kensington Palace. Celebrities were pictured on an array of bikes including a Penny Farthing, a Tandem and mountain bikes. Proving it’s never to late to ride a bike Amanda Holden and Suzanne Shaw had fun riding the tandem, whilst Jimmy Hill and Suzanne Shaw bravely took the opportunity to have a go on the Penny Farthing. The main event in the summer will be supported by celebrities and cycling professionals and is set to raise thousands of pounds for two chosen charities SPARKS and THE NATIONAL BYWAY TRUST.
Further Background Info: The event will consist of a series of charity bike rides designed to appeal to cyclists of different ages and ability levels. On four consecutive summer Sunday’s cyclists will be able to take part in a 50-mile Challenge Ride or a 10-mile Fun Ride in countryside around each of the four Center Parcs villages. All rides will be open to members of the public as well as Center Parcs guests
This unique event is to raise money for SPARKS, the pioneering children's medical research charity backed by sporting celebrities, and the National Byway, which maintains a 4,000-mile cycle route around Britain, promoting the health and environmental benefits of cycling.
Martin Dalby, the CEO of Center Parcs UK, said: "After the tremendous success of last year's rides, we are delighted to be running Pedal With The Parcs again in 2007. We look forward welcoming more riders this year and hopefully we will raise a huge sum of money for charity"
SPARKS has to date committed well over £12million to fund research into conditions as diverse as childhood cancers, childhood arthritis, meningitis, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and all the risks associated with premature birth.
